Jubilarians in a jubilee year

Sisters from several of the 120 communities of women religious in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles were honored at the Annual Religious Jubilarians Mass on Sunday, Jan. 31.

The Mass is traditionally held the same week that the Catholic Church celebrates the World Day of Prayer for Consecrated Life (Feb. 2 this year). Several jubilarian sisters who could not attend the Mass at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels followed from home via livestream.

In his homily, Archbishop José H. Gomez noted that those honored had the distinction of being “jubilarians in a jubilee year,” marking 250 years since the founding of Mission San Gabriel.

“For so many years now, you have been our leaders, showing us by your example how we should live as followers of Jesus Christ: by the humility and simplicity of your lives, by your love for God, and for those in need,” he told the sisters.
