The South Central Los Angeles Ministry Project (SC-LAMP), a charitable organization that provides a range of services designed to help support low-income women and their children, recently honored Sister Yolanda Vega of the Sisters of Social Service for more than two decades of tireless service to immigrant families.

“I have visited immigrant families in their homes and heard of the many hardships and difficulties they are experiencing,” recounted Sister Vega. “Mothers [have] shared their hopes and dreams for their children and for themselves … [stories] not unlike my own first generation Mexican-American family’s story”

On May 17, SC-LAMP hosted its annual Person of the Year celebration in Downtown L.A. to honor both Sister Vega and Marilyn Stambler, president of the Friars Charitable Foundation, who was also named a Person of the Year.
