A newly released movie depicts the courageous life of the foundress of the Servants of Mary, a religious order from Madrid that cares for the sick. The life of the Spanish saint will be depicted in upcoming film screenings in Los Angeles.

The movie, “Luz de Soledad” (“Light of Solitude”), tells the story of St. María Soledad Torres y Acosta as she faces revolutions, epidemics and religious persecutions while ministering to the sick and building up her order. Pope Paul VI canonized her in 1970. Her feast day is celebrated Oct. 11.

The movie was filmed in Spanish. Laemmle Theater in Beverly Hills will show the movie with English subtitles on Dec. 9 at 1:30 p.m., and in Spanish at its North Hollywood location on Dec. 10 at 7 p.m. The Playhouse 7 in Pasadena will screen the movie with English subtitles on Dec. 13 at 7 p.m.
