Carla Rivera, a teacher at Good Shepherd School in Beverly Hills, has been selected the 2014 recipient of the Archbishop José Gómez Scholarship awarded by the Catholic Association of Latino Leaders (CALL).

With the scholarship, Rivera will attend the Remick Leadership Program for three years during their summer course at the University of Notre Dame. The Remick program is one of CALL’s key alliances as it supports a variety of projects to promote the Catholic Church and the development of the Latino community.

Rivera earned a Bachelor’s degree in Communications at Pace University in Westchester, N.Y., and recently received her Master’s degree in Education from Loyola Marymount University. With six years of teaching experience, and highly recommended by her principal, Danielle Colvert, she looks forward to using her administrative credential to be a positive impact on the city of Los Angeles.

The Catholic Association of Latino Leaders supports a variety of projects that promote the Catholic Church and the development of the Latino community. A generous gift of the Riordan Foundation enabled CALL to create the Archbishop José Gómez Scholarship which will allow Latino candidates to study educational administration and take on leadership roles in Catholic schools.

“CALL’s hope is that with the formation of school leadership in the Catholic faith and morals, the Catholic Schools will thrive and the children will be well formed in their faith,” said a statement from CALL.
