Fr. Richard Carey

Funeral services were held Sept. 12 at the House of Mercy in Tecate, Baja, California, for Father Richard Carey, 83, who died Sept. 11 of cancer. Ordained to the priesthood on June 11, 1955, for the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis, Father Carey came to Southern California in 1985 and was incardinated into the Archdiocese of Los Angeles in 1987.He served as an associate pastor at St. Basil, Los Angeles; Nativity, El Monte; St. Martha, Huntington Park; St. Joan of Arc, West Los Angeles; St. Joseph, Pomona; and St. Catherine Laboure, Torrance. Father Carey served as senior priest at St. Mariana de Paredes, Pico Rivera, and at St. Gregory the Great, Whittier, until his retirement in 2005. In 2009, he moved to Tecate, Baja, California, and served at the House of Mercy (Casa de Misericordia) until his death.
