Led by seven goals from red-hot David Carrasco, the Loyola Marymount men’s water polo team never trailed in a 15-9 Western Water Polo Association victory over Santa Clara Oct. 17 at Burns Center.

LMU scored the game’s first three goals, led 7-2 at halftime and 11-5 after three quarters. Carrasco added three assists to go with his seven goals, while Blazo Mitrovic collected two goals and three assists, Jonny Rimlinger and Christian Huhn each scored twice, and Austin Clark and Alexandros Athymaritis each scored once.

The Lions then headed for Colorado for a conference match Oct. 19 against Air Force, and came away with a 16-14 win to even their record at 8-8 overall and 3-1 in WWPA play. Mitrovic netted a career-best eight goals, including two straight with less than four minutes left that gave LMU a 15-13 lead.

Carrasco (who scored the clincher) had two goals and four assists, Rimlinger and Daniel Roth each had two, and Athymaritis and Joseph Shaw each scored one in the tightly contested battle at Cadet Natatorium.

This week, LMU participates in the Julian Fraser Memorial Tournament at Santa Clara University. The Lions are scheduled to play Brown Oct. 25, and Bucknell and Princeton Oct. 26.
