Girls’ Volleyball: St. Bernard, Santa Clara post Round 2 upsets

Catholic school teams are still in the mix for all; nine CIF-Southern Section girls’ volleyball divisional titles, as playoffs move into the quarterfinal round Oct. 30.

Second round matches played Oct. 26 saw 11 schools from the Los Angeles Archdiocese and Orange Diocese emerge victorious, with unseeded St. Bernard and Santa Clara upsetting ranked teams. They join Marymount and Mater Dei (from Division 1) in the “elite eight” of their respective divisions. 

The Sailors and Monarchs, seeded second and third, had first round byes in the 12-team Division 1 field. Should they win on Wednesday, they would meet in the semifinals on Saturday.

Quarterfinals are Oct. 30, semifinals Nov. 2 and finals Nov. 9. Following are second round results and the quarterfinal match schedule, with seedings where applicable and won-lost records:
