Football League leaders maintain holds on first place

Unbeaten Mater Dei continued its powerhouse season Oct. 20 with a 45-3 victory over previously unbeaten J.Serra, giving the Monarchs sole possession of first place in the Trinity League.

St. John Bosco pulled out a narrow 40-38 win over Santa Margarita, and Servite scored an even tighter 29-28 victory over Orange Lutheran. Mater Dei (8-0 overall, 3-0 in league) now leads St. John Bosco and Serra (each 2-1), Santa Margarita and Servite (each 1-2) and Orange Lutheran (0-3), with two weeks remaining in the regular season.

In the Mission League, Chaminade blanked Alemany 45-0 while Bishop Amat got by Serra 21-14 to remain tied for the league lead with Chaminade at 4-0, and Loyola stopped Crespi 17-0. Serra is 3-2 in league, Loyola 2-3, Alemany and idle Notre Dame each 1-3. and Crespi 0-4.

Angelus League leaders St. Francis (69-0 over Salesian) and Cathedral (49-6 over La Salle) continued their winning ways, with perfect 3-0 league records. Harvard-Westlake outscored St. Paul 49-35 to move to 2-1, with La Salle 1-2 and St. Paul and Salesian at 0-3.
