Las Posadas

People watch as a young girl swings at a piñata with a stick during a traditional Christmas posada in San Jose, Calif., Dec. 21, 2024. The celebration, commonly called Las Posadas, is widely celebrated in the U.S., Mexico and other areas of Latin America to reenact Joseph and Mary's search for shelter on the eve of Christ's birth. The piñata used at this posada was a traditional seven-pointed piñata filled with candy, which represents the seven sins. After breaking the piñata and symbolically overcoming the seven sins, people are rewarded with the candies as they fall to the ground. (OSV News photo/David Maung)
