Ross Porter, director of Faith Formation and Evangelization at St. Mel Catholic Church in Woodland, is offering a class to prepare those with special needs for the Sacraments of Baptism, First Communion and Confirmation.
The class, entitled Our Saints Among Us, will also serve as a way to build community and friendship. The program is open to older teens and young adults who have mental disabilities. The class will feature art and music in addition to Catechism instruction.
Those with mental disabilities are an essential part of the Body of Christ, said Ross Porter in a press release. “They have the ability to teach us as much as we teach them — especially about that which is eternal in significance: of joy, and simplicity, and acceptance, and kindness, and love.”
