Last month Vida Nueva, the official monthly Spanish-language publication of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, was recognized by the National Association of Hispanic Publications (NAHP) for its photojournalism and articles with local and Latin American perspective, winning 10 José Martí Publishing Awards.

“Since its inception, Vida Nueva has always been a service publication,” said Vida Nueva’s Victor Alemán. “Vida Nueva seeks to strengthen Catholic faith — fundamental and meaningful to our readers — and also provide vital information to the immigrant community as they adapt to a new life.”

Gold Award recipients include Alicia Morandi for her coverage of unaccompanied children crossing the border to escape violence in Central America; Luis Uribe for his article on the death of Cesar Chavez’s wife, Helen; and Victor Alemán for his cultural photo essay “Last Goodbye to Cesar Chavez.”
