Los Angeles Auxiliary Bishops Robert E. Barron, Joseph V. Brennan and David G. O’Connell were among a group of more than 150 bishops — all of whom were appointed by Pope Francis during the past year — who visited Rome Sept. 10-18 to participate in what some have dubbed “baby bishops’ boot camp.”
The week-long course aims to teach the new bishops how to run their dioceses, and addresses a wide range of topics, including finances, pastoral care of the family, the relationship between a bishop and his priests, interreligious dialogue and evangelizing through digital media.
