On March 16, Loyola High School’s cross-country team became the only high school team in Los Angeles to capture a sixth CIF California State Cross Country Championship.

Los Angeles Councilmember Gil Cedillo and the L.A. City Council honored the school and their five coaches for winning the title for the sixth time in 12 years.

Before presenting a commemorative scroll to head coach Lalo Diaz, Cedillo said the school is “an extraordinary, extraordinary high school, a pillar and anchor of our community … a school that’s located in the first district but serves the entire city.”

He added, “It is an honor to talk about Loyola and the young men its preparing for leadership — people who will lead our city, and will do it with reverence and respect.”
