An eighth-grader from St. Paschal Baylon School in Thousand Oaks is traveling to Fresno for the 2016 California National Geographic State Bee after winning the school bee competition.
On April 1, semifinalist Luke Meyers will compete against approximately 100 other students for the chance to go on and compete in Washington, D.C., where the national level grand prize will include a $50,000 college scholarship.
The national champion will also become a lifetime member in the National Geographic Society and will travel (along with one parent or guardian), all expenses paid, on a cruise around southeast Alaska.
The competition, open to students from fourth through eighth grade, consists of multiple-choice questions about the earth, the atmosphere and human activity. The 2016 National Geographic Bee Championship will air on the National Geographic Channel on May 27 at 8 p.m. EST.
