Allen Caveness has been named the new varsity boys basketball coach at St. Anthony High School, Long Beach.

Caveness joins St. Anthony following successful stints as a head coach and assistant at the junior college level, in addition to his continual involvement in the Drew League. As Mt. In his first head coaching position, Caveness spent three years as the head coach of the Compton College men’s basketball program where he also doubled as the Athletic Director and Kinesiology Department Chair. While compiling an overall record of 63-22, Caveness was named the 2007 "Coach of the Year" for Southern California by the California Community College Men's Basketball Coaches Association.

Caveness, who prepped at Daniel Murphy High School, earned a scholarship to play basketball for Division I Saint Mary's College in Moraga. He earned a Bachelor’s degree in Sports Medicine from St. Mary's College and two Master's Degrees from Azusa Pacific University in Counseling and Kinesiology. Caveness will join the growing St. Anthony High School faculty as a full-time teacher.

“We are excited to continue building our program under the direction of Coach Caveness,” said St. Anthony athletic director Brian Walsh. “His ability to develop student-athletes both on and off the floor will be a great asset for St. Anthony High School.”
