Santa Margarita, J.Serra and Loyola earned “top two” team finishes at the CIF-Southern Section Swimming and Diving Championships held May 10-17 at the Riverside Aquatics Complex, UC Riverside.
Santa Margarita's girls captured the Division 1 championship, ahead of second place J.Serra and sixth-place Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy. Loyola finished second in Division 1 boys. Also finishing in the the top 10 of team competition were La Reina (sixth) and Immaculate Heart (ninth) in Division 3 girls, and Damien (eighth) in Division 2 boys.
Among the individual titles earned by swimmers representing Los Angeles and Orange Catholic schools, Kathryn McLaughlin, Santa Margarita junior, broke two of her Division 1 meet records in winning the girls' Division 1 200-yard freestyle and 100-yard butterfly, and anchored two winning relay team efforts.
Immaculate Heart junior Olivia Rosendahl likewise broke her own meet record she'd set as a freshman in 2012 by winning the girls' Division 3 1-meter diving. And Loyola set a new meet record in winning the boys' Division 1 200-yard freestyle relay.
Also earning titles in Division 1 were Santa Margarita's Grant Shoults (boys’ 200-yard freestyle), Loyola’s Corey John (boys’ 50-yard freestyle), and Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy's girls’ 200-yard medley relay team.
