Sister Nancy Hale, aged 74, died peacefully on Sunday, October 3, 2021, in New Orleans.

Nancy was born in Santa Monica, CA. She grew up in Downey, where she attended Our Lady of Perpetual Help Elementary and Pius X High Schools.

In 1968 she joined the Congregation of the Sisters of the Holy Faith in St. Raymond’s, Downey. She did her novitiate at the motherhouse in Dublin, Ireland, where she professed her vows on August 1970.

Nancy earned her B.A. from Loyola University, New Orleans, and her M.A. from Loyola Marymount, Los Angeles. She was missioned to elementary schools in New Orleans from 1971-1975, and 1984-1987, as well as Director of a Community Center there in the early 90s.

In the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, Nancy taught at St. Mary Magdalen, Los Angeles, St. John of God, Norwalk, St. Raymond’s, Downey, St. Paul’s High School, Santa Fe Springs, and San Gabriel Mission High School, as well as serving as Director of Religion Education and Senior Citizen Coordinator at St. Raymond’s. She also served the community as a member of the leadership team.

Nancy’s love for New Orleans drew her back for the last time in 2009, where she volunteered at St. Vincent de Paul Adult Learning Center until 2013, later at Lantern Light, at the Rebuild Center until COVID-19 changed our lives.

Throughout her life Nancy had a deep love and concern for all God’s people who struggled in any way.

Nancy was preceded in death by her parents Evelyn and Don, and her brother, Pat. She is survived by her brother Mike (Betsy), sisters Donna (Jim), Terri (Gray), and Robin, nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. Nancy will be dearly missed by her family and her Holy Faith community.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Nancy’s name to The Margaret Aylward Center, 4270 Acacia Ave., Pico Rivera, CA 90660. This is a ministry of the Sisters of the Holy Faith, serving the poor, which was very dear to Nancy’s heart.

A memorial Mass will be celebrated at St. Raymond’s Church in Downey, on Saturday, October 23, 2021 at 2:00 p.m.
