Reverend Laurence Mark Newman, CJ, died Monday, September 5, 2023. He was 92 years old.
Father Mark was a religious order priest who was ordained on June 29, 1960, for the Josephite Fathers. He was a founding member of the California Region of the Josephite Fathers (60 years of service in Santa Maria). While serving in the archdiocese, these were his assignments:
- Associate Pastor, St. Pius X – St. Matthias Academy, Downey
- Teacher, St. Joseph High School, Santa Maria
- Associate Pastor, St. Joseph Novitiate, Santa Barbara
- Pastor, Associate Pastor, St. Louis de Montfort, Santa Maria
- Resident, Josephite Fathers, Santa Maria
Services are as follows:
Rosary vigil: Friday, Sept. 8, at St. Louis de Monfort Church, 5075 Harp Rd., Santa Maria, at 4 p.m.
Requiem Mass: Saturday, Sept. 9, at St. Louis de Monfort Church, at 10 a.m.
