Deacon Ray Skupnik died Saturday, December 12, 2020.

Raymond Paul Skupnik was born in Chicago in 1940. He attended Bowen High School where he met his high school sweetheart Carol Matz. After graduating high school, Ray went into the Navy. In 1960, he married Carol and remained in the Navy until 1964 when they moved to California and settled down in San Diego. Ray worked for the phone company for many years and eventually retired from Pacific Bell.

In 1986, Ray was ordained a Deacon for the Diocese of San Diego. In 1995, he and Carol moved to Long Beach and served a permanent deacon at St. Cyprian Church for many years. Ray and Carol both were very dedicated to feeding the homeless in the Long Beach area. After 55 years of marriage, Carol passed away with Ray by her side.

Ray loved to golf and go bowling. He enjoyed watching Notre Dame College football, and he loved to travel and go on cruises. Ray was a very kind quiet man who would help anyone in need.  He will be missed very much by all who had the pleasure to know him.
