Deacon Ruben Guerra died Sunday, June 26, 2022.

Ruben was born in Monterrey, Mexico, on May 7, 1937. He moved to Los Angeles in 1958 and quickly met the love of his life, Teresa, at a dance. They were married in November of 1958 and soon after bought a home in La Puente, where they raised their four children. Ruben, a dedicated husband and father, had a relentless work ethic, rising daily at 3am as a milkman for Adohr Farms, and later as a bus driver for Rapid Transit District (RTD).

He loved coaching Little League and watching his boys play. He also loved his parish community at St. Joseph Church, where he taught Bible classes and served as a lector,  Eucharistic Minister, and member of the Knights of Columbus. But it was at El Cursillo De Christiandad that he felt the call to serve the Lord in a deeper way. Ruben entered the diaconate formation program was ordained a deacon for the Archdiocese of Los Angeles in 1985. He served alongside his wife Teresa for many years at St. Joseph Church in La Puente, and later at Our Lady of Victory in Los Angeles.

Ruben is survived by Teresa, his wife of 63 years; four children (and spouses), Ruben, Gabriel (Marcella), Araceli (Jim); and Victor; seven grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, family, friends, and his wonderful caregiver Corine. 

The funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, July 20, at 10 a.m. with a rosary at 9:30 a.m., at St. Joseph Church, 550 North Glendora Ave., La Puente. Interment will follow at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Rowland Heights.

Priests/deacons wishing to attend are invited to vest in alb and white stole.
