Sister Helene McBride, PBVM

Funeral Mass was celebrated Sept. 10 at the Presentation Motherhouse in San Francisco for Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Sister Helene McBride, who died Aug. 31; she was 84. Interment followed at Holy Cross Cemetery in Colma, California.

A native of San Francisco, Sister McBride was born to Emma Woebbe and John Aloysius McBride on April 4, 1931. She earned a B.S. in education at the University of San Francisco, and an M.A. in American History at Notre Dame University, Indiana, as well as teaching and administrative credentials.  

Sister McBride was a Sister of the Presentation for 67 years. Her service in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles included being a faculty member at Our Lady of Lourdes School, Los Angeles, from 1958 to 1960; serving as vice principal at Bishop Conaty High School, Los Angeles, from 1964 to 1966; and being assistant to the superintendent of schools for the archdiocese from 1971 to 1974.

Sister McBride is survived by her sister-in-law Joyce McBride, several cousins and their family members, and her fellow Presentation sisters. Memorial contributions can be sent to: Sisters of the Presentation, Development Office, 281 Masonic Avenue, San Francisco, CA 94118.
