Sr. Mary Jo Wise, PBVM
Funeral Mass will be held May 30, 7 p.m., at St. Agnes Church, San Francisco, for Sister of the Presentation Mary Jo Wise, 66, who died May 26 at the Presentation Motherhouse in San Francisco. She had been a Sister of the Presentation for 45 years.
A native of Los Angeles, Sister Wise taught from 1972-78 at Presentation High School in San Francisco. In 1978, along with three other Presentation Sisters, she founded the Presentation Shelter Home for abused and abandoned children, which continued until 1980. Sister Wise and Sister Judy Cunningham reopened this home in 1981, ministering there until 1985.
She later earned an LVN degree and ministered at St. Elizabeth Home and St. Luke Hospital. In 1995, Sister Wise returned to teaching at St. Brigid School in San Francisco.
Three times she was elected to serve on the Sisters of the Presentation Leadership Teams, and also served on regional and national Leadership Conference of Women Religious (LCWR) committees, including the executive team of LCWR Region 14. Recently, Sister Wise served on the Pastoral Council of the Archdiocese of San Francisco.
Interment will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery, Colma. Memorial contributions may be sent to Sisters of the Presentation, Development Office, 281 Masonic Ave., San Francisco, CA 94118.
Msgr. Alfred Hernández
Funeral Mass will be celebrated May 30, 11 a.m. at St. Ignatius of Loyola Church, Highland Park, for Msgr. Alfred Hernández, pastor emeritus, who died May 26.
He was ordained a priest of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles on April 27, 1955, part of the largest class of ordinands (31) in the history of the archdiocese. He served 18 years (1978-96) as pastor of St. Ignatius before retiring.
