Catholic Cemeteries have played a vital role in Southern California since the time of the Spanish Missions. Today, Catholic Cemeteries of Los Angeles operates 11 cemeteries, six mortuaries and a Cathedral mausoleum that serve the Archdiocese of Los Angeles:
---All Souls Cemetery and Mortuary, Long Beach.
---Assumption Cemetery, Simi Valley.
---Calvary Cemetery, Santa Barbara.
---Calvary Cemetery and Mortuary, East Los Angeles.
---Good Shepherd Cemetery, Lancaster.
---Holy Cross Cemetery, Pomona.
---Holy Cross Cemetery and Mortuary, Culver City.
---Queen of Heaven Cemetery and Mortuary, Rowland Heights.
---Resurrection Cemetery, Montebello.
---San Fernando Mission Cemetery and Mission Hills Mortuary, Mission Hills.
---Santa Clara Cemetery and Mortuary, Oxnard.
---Mausoleum at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels.
Each cemetery annually holds special Memorial Day and All Souls celebrations.
Additionally, Catholic Cemeteries offers a comprehensive eight-week Bereavement Training Program for Catholic clergy, religious, hospital, hospice and laypeople.
The program, which requires a strong attendance commitment, is designed to help create the basis for a Bereavement Team in each parish in the archdiocese. To that end, it is recommended that five or more persons from each parish attend --- people who will commit themselves in a caring way to journey in faith with the bereaved suffering a loss in their community.
Upcoming Bereavement Training Programs (both in English) are scheduled as follows:
---Mondays, 7-9:30 p.m. running Jan. 27 to March 10 at Mary Star of the Sea Church, 870 W. 8th St., San Pedro. The program also includes a Saturday morning, March 8, 9 a.m.-noon.
---Thursdays, 7-9:30 p.m. running May 1 to June 26 at St. Jude Church, 32032 Lindero Canyon Rd., Westlake Village.
