The Los Angeles Area Council Boy Scouts of America Board is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year, in addition to announcing Gerry Morton as the newly elected two-term president and board chairman.
Boy Scouts seeks to train tomorrow’s leaders by cultivating character development, good citizenship and personal fitness. More than 25,000 youth in the Southern California area benefit from its programs, which include camping, rocketry and food drives.
Morton, a husband and father, has a long history with Boy Scouts. He began scouting in 1984, earned the rank of Eagle Scout in 1987 and joined the district committee in 2001. He has also served as vice president of membership on the council board, as executive vice president and as President-Elect. Morton is also the CEO of EnergyFirst, a leading company in protein and supplement products.
“My scouting experience as a boy and young man helped prepare me for success in business and life,” says Morton. “It is a privilege and honor to do my part to ensure that scouting is available to all our boys and generations to come.”
On March 4, the LAAC Boy Scouts of America will host the Business Leaders’ Breakfast honoring the 2015 leader of the year, Robert Gates, former secretary of defense and current national president of the Boy Scouts of America.
The breakfast will be from 6:30 a.m. to 9 a.m. and will be located at the Millennium Biltmore Hotel, 506 South Grand Ave., LA 90071. Information and tickets for the event can be found at blbscouts.org.
