St. Francis Medical Center is taking a stand against the End of Life Option Act, which went into effect on June 9. The new regulation allows doctors to assist in the suicide of a terminal patient by prescribing a lethal dose of medicine.

Under the center’s guidelines, no St. Francis Medical Center employee, physician, independent contractor, or other people or entities that work at or with the center may participate in activities under the act while on the premises of the center, or while acting within the scope of any employment or contractual relationship with the center, St. Francis Medical Center said in a statement.

The center is allowed to opt out under a provision provided in the act.
