Loyola High School tops the Division 2 baseball poll in the latest weekly rankings issued by the CIF-Southern Section.

The Cubs (7-0 as of March 4) compete in the powerful Mission League along with Harvard-Westlake (7-1), ranked in the top 10 nationally by Maxpreps, and  Notre Dame/Sherman Oaks (6-1), ranked fifth in the CIF-SS D-1 poll.

Loyola plays Notre Dame in a three-game series March 20-22, and has a three-game set against Harvard-Westlake in mid-April, with Notre Dame and Harvard-Westlake tangling the following week to end the regular season.

Also mentioned in the top 10 of the March 4 polls are Mater Dei, ninth in D-1; Mary Star of the Sea, second in D-4; Salesian, fifth in D-5; and Villanova, ninth in D-7.

  • Boys’ volleyball: J. Serra is No. 1 in D-3. The combined Divisions 1 & 2 poll (with teams separated at playoff time in late April) includes Loyola (fourth), Servite (13th), Mater Dei (14th) and Santa Margarita (17th), while St. Anthony is sixth in D-4.
