At this year’s Ramona Challenge, a day of fun and competition for girls in grades 5-8, over 700 students from 20 local elementary schools converged on Ramona Convent in Alhambra to show off their smarts. Competitors were selected from their respective schools to compete in artistic, athletic, musical, and academic contests designed by Ramona’s high school students and faculty members.

Since 1993, the Convent has hosted these challenges once a year. Competition is fierce, but the girls enjoy camaraderie too — this year, food trucks fueled them with burgers, tacos, and pizza, and student DJs kept the energy flowing. Although not all participants left with medals, each one left with a smile and a taste of high school competition and academic life.
