St. Anthony High School in Long Beach recently installed an impressive 72-kilowatt solar energy system to power their campus, which has already saved the school $20,000 in electrical bills.
Ben Lochtenberg, a parishioner at American Martyrs, is the owner of XeroSolar, a solar energy equipment supplier. Using his extensive solar energy expertise, Lochtenberg helped to develop a grant proposal for solar energy at St. Anthony High School, resulting in a $300,000 grant for the project from the Harbor Department of the City of Long Beach, also known as, the Port of Long Beach.
“The St. Anthony High School community is deeply grateful to the Archdiocese of Los Angeles for their support in this project, implemented in partnership with XeroSolar and the Port of Long Beach,” says school president Gina Rushing Maguire. “We hope to continue expanding solar energy on campus for even greater savings in the future.”
Lochtenberg says about the project, “We feel strongly about living out the St. Francis pledge to do everything we can to preserve and protect God’s creation. What better place for this witness than at a Catholic educational institution?”
