At this year’s San Gabriel Mission High School scholarship benefit luncheon, the school recognized one family whose commitment to Catholic education has brought two generations to the school.

Jesus and Rosa Rivas sent all four of their daughters to Mission, starting with their oldest, Isabel, who graduated in 1993. This year, Isabel’s daughter Victoria is a member of the Class of 2019, continuing her family’s tradition of education. “I sent my daughter here because I wanted her to focus on her education and learn to be a team player,” said Isabel. “My best high school memory was being in a place where I felt happy to express myself.” Isabel’s sisters Linda, Jessica, and Diana graduated in 1995, 1999, and 2002. All four girls have fond memories of their time at Mission, and the lessons they learned there.

As Mission celebrates its 70th anniversary this year, the legacy continues. Jessica’s daughter Rebecca will follow in the family path, entering Mission as an incoming freshman this August.

Also recognized at the school’s luncheon were this year’s three legacy scholarship recipients, all incoming freshmen: Tatiana Estrada, Rebecca Palma and Michelle Morales.
