Although ranked “only” tenth locally in the April 15 CIF-Southern Section Division 1 baseball poll, Notre Dame of Sherman Oaks is ranked 11th nationally in Maxpreps’ weekly computer poll.
The Knights, with a 19-5 record entering play April 17, are also 11-2 in the Mission League, a half-game behind Harvard-Westlake, ranked fifth nationally by Maxpreps. Next week, Notre Dame and Harvard-Westlake play a three-game series to end the regular season and determine not just the Mission League title but favorable seedings in the CIF-SS baseball playoffs that start April 30.
The weekly CIF-SS rankings include the following:
Baseball: Notre Dame/Sherman Oaks is tenth in Division 1; Damien seventh and Santa Margarita ninth in D-2; Paraclete third in D-3; St. Paul fifth and Mary Star eighth in D-4; Bishop Diego fourth in D-5; and St. Monica fifth in D-6.
Softball: Mater Dei is fourth and Santa Margarita ninth in D-1; Mary Star is fourth in D-4; Flintridge Sacred Heart sixth, Louisville eighth and Paraclete tenth in D-5; Marymount seventh and Santa Clara tenth in D-6; and Mayfield fourth in D-7.
Boys’ tennis: Loyola is tied for ninth in D-1; Santa Margarita is fourth in D-2; Mater Dei third in D-3. Bishop Montgomery fifth in D-4, and Bishop Amat seventh in D-5.
Boys’ volleyball: The combined Divisions 1 & 2 poll includes Loyola fifth, Santa Margarita 12th and Servite 13th. J. Serra is fourth in D-3; St. Anthony is second and Paraclete fifth in D-4; and Don Bosco Tech fifth in D-6.
Post-season action in spring sports — including swimming and diving, track and field, and boys’ golf — begins late next week.
