J.Serra has joined Crespi as a division leader in the CIF-Southern Section boys’ water polo polls released Sept. 23.

The Lions of San Juan Capistrano are No. 1 in Division 4, while the Celts of Encino remain first in D-6, following another strong week of performances by Catholic school teams. J.Serra has moved from sixth to second to first in the past three weeks.

The combined D-1&2 poll stayed the same, with Loyola third, Mater Dei, fourth, Santa Margarita ninth and Damien 18th.

Servite moved up from fifth to fourth in D-3, as did St. Francis in D-5; Notre Dame/Sherman Oaks is now tenth in D-3; and Alemany jumped into the D-6 top 10 at No. 6.

Cross Country

Catholic school teams were in the middle of their respective divisional packs in the latest CIF-Southern Section cross country divisional polls released Sept. 23.

In boys’ cross country. Loyola was down from seventh to eighth in Division 2; Damien moved into ninth with St. John Bosco holding at tenth in D-3; and Cathedral remained fourth, J.Serra rose from eighth to seventh, and St. Francis was tied for eighth in D-4. 

Among girls’ teams, Sacred Heart rose from seventh to fifth in D-5. Mayfield slipped from fifth to seventh and Bishop Amat from eighth to tenth in D-4.

Girls’ Tennis

The CIF-SS girls’ tennis rankings saw J.Serra reach the Division 2 top ten at No. 7. Mayfield, the only local Catholic school in any of last week’s five divisional top tens, slipped from fifth to sixth in D-3.
