Three members of Loyola High School’srnSouthern California Regional championship team are among the All-CIF SoutheSection first team selections in boys’ soccer for 2018.
Senior forwards Aiden Cuevas and DiegornAvila, and junior midfielder Henry Smith-Hastie were chosen to the Division 1rnfirst team selected by Southern California Water Polo Coaches’ Assn. andrnpresented March 26 by the LA84 Foundation.
Also named to the first team were threernsenior members of Cathedral High School’s CIF-SS Division 1 finalists:rndefenders Edward Salazar and Kevin Aragon, and junior midfielder Nomar Ibarra.
Senior forward Markus Raad of BishoprnMontgomery was a Division 3 first team choice, while Division 7’s first teamrnfeatured senior defender Andres Flores of Verbum Dei, a first team choice inrn2017.
Senior defender Brendan McDaid of St.rnAnthony, a D-7 first team choice in 2017, was selected to the Division 6 firstrnteam in 2018, as were three players from Santa Clara: senior forward OnofrernPulido, junior forward Isaac Carbajal and sophomore defender AJ Martinez.
SCHSCA All-Star Showcase
Seven Catholic school boys’ soccer playersrnwere among the outstanding seniors selected to play in the annual SoutheCalifornia High School Soccer Coaches Association All-Star Showcase, held Marchrn24 at Estancia High School.
Representing Division 1 were Levi Wiedman,rnNotre Dame/Sherman Oaks; Matthew Salerno, Crespi; Alex Labrie and NicolasrnHernandez, Servite; Nick Cirrito and Justin Stephen, Mater Dei; and NicornPegorer, Chaminade, as well as Coach Art Lopez of Cathedral.
Additionally, Salerno was honored with arnSCHSCA scholarships for outstanding academic and athletic achievements. Salernornalso has played football and lacrosse, and is an honor roll student and studentrnbody president at Crespi.
