Softball: Five Catholic teams moving on

Five Catholic school teams have advanced to the second round of the CIF-SS Softball Tournament after quarterfinal victories on May 24.

Semifinals are on May 29, followed by finals June 1 and 2 at Deanna Manning Stadium, Irvine. The quarterfinal results:

Division 1: Gahr d. Mater Dei 4-3.

Division 3: West Torrance d. St. Paul 8-1.

Division 5: Chaminade d. La Canada 2-1; Culver City d. St. Joseph/Santa Maria 9-3. Semifinals: Chaminade vs. Culver City.

Division 6: Mary Star d. Rancho Mirage 7-6. Semifinals: Mary Star vs. Carnegie/Riverside.

Division 7: Marymount d. Hawthorne MSA 3-0; San Gabriel Mission d. Costa Mesa 6-3; Serra d. Campbell Hall 13-4. Semifinals: Marymount vs. Serra; San Gabriel Mission vs. The Archer School for Girls.
