Last month, Sister Nancy Jo Uhl made her final vows as a sister of Notre Dame de Namur.

Family, friends and parishioners joined in the celebration at St. Louise de Marillac Church in Covina, where Sister Nancy serves as a pastoral counselor. “This is where I am meant to be,” says Sister Nancy. “I look forward to my continuing journey as a sister of Notre Dame de Namur.”

A native of Ohio, Sister Nancy relocated to Los Angeles where she married and welcomed her daughter Sarah. After losing her husband to illness, Nancy continued working as a single mother, serving the homeless in downtown Los Angeles and volunteering at her parish.

Over time, she began to feel a strong pull toward religious life, and, with her now-adult daughter’s encouragement, she chose to become a member of the religious community of the sisters of Notre Dame de Namur.
