Five parishes join to sponsor Matthew Kelly retreat Jan. 11
A multi-parish Matthew Kelly retreat is scheduled for Jan. 11, hosted by St. Paschal Baylon Church in Thousand Oaks.
Kelly, the well-known author and speaker, will present a "Living Every Day with Passion and Purpose" from 9 a.m. to 1:30 pm. Jan. 11 at St. Paschal, 155 E. Janss Road, Thousand Oaks. This retreat is also sponsored by St. Rose of Lima (Simi Valley), St. Jude the Apostle and St. Maximilian Kolbe (Westlake Village), and St. Julie Billiart (Newbury Park).
“The program will offer life changing spiritual enrichment,” said Remo Iezza, and event organizer. “The event is for those who want more energy, a deeper sense of purpose, more joy, and a clearer understanding of God's plan for their lives.”

Dignity Health Hospice celebrates annual Light up a Life ceremony
The holiday season can be an especially difficult time for those grieving the loss of a loved one.
Dignity Health Hospice invites members of Santa Maria, Lompoc and surrounding Central Coast communities to join in its annual Light Up a Life celebration where members of the public honor and remember the lives of family members and loved ones who are no longer with us.
The Dignity Health Hospice Light Up a Life ceremony will take place in Santa Maria on Thursday, December 5, 2013,at 6:30 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church located at 311 South Broadway.
The community remembrance ceremony will feature music, poems, the reading of the names of those being remembered this year and a photomontage. During the reading of the names, candles will be lit, symbolizing the memory of loved ones being remembered.
“This beautiful Light up a Life ceremony is a very special way to start the holiday season with a ceremony honoring those who we are missing during the holiday season,” says Tina McEvoy, Dignity Health Hospice director. “The ceremony is very meaningful and there are many people attending who understand and share the feelings of those grieving the loss of a loved one.”
Dignity Health Hospice recognizes death as the final stage of life and exists to enable hospice patients to live their final days surrounded by their loved ones. Hospice reaffirms the right of every person and family to fully participate in the final stages of life.
To memorialize a loved one at Light up a Life and to have their name read aloud during the ceremony, community members can purchase a light on the Dignity Health Hospice Memorial Tree for $20. All event donations received will help support Dignity Health Hospice and Home Care programs and services.
Memorial lights will be available for purchase through the Marian Regional Medical Center Foundation until Monday, December 2nd.
