Founded in 1797 by Father Fermin Francisco de Lasuén, San Fernando Rey de Espana Mission in Mission Hills is in need of additional volunteer tour guides to host groups of adult and student visitors. Many people request tour guides so they can get a better understanding of California’s past, and guides are especially in demand during the school year.
Anyone with an avid interest in California’s mission period is invited to become a tour guide. Newcomers are given a handbook to study and go on tours themselves with seasoned guides. When a guide trainee feels comfortable, he or she leads a tour with another guide.
The San Fernando Mission tour guides meet every first Thursday of the month at 1 p.m. in Cantwell Hall, 15151 San Fernando Mission Blvd., Mission Hills. For further information, call Maureen Wiggins, (818) 897-7031
