On June 3, volunteers from Solvang traveled to Skid Row in downtown Los Angeles to serve lunch to 70 homeless men and women at the society’s Cardinal Manning Center.

Old Mission Santa Inés Society of St. Vincent de Paul volunteer, Sally Corlett, said, “We felt called to help the homeless in Los Angeles as part of our service to others.”

In addition to the charitable event on Skid Row, the society also operates a hotline for those in need of financial or emotional support. The volunteers also coordinate Christmas baskets, gather clothing and home goods during “Bundle Sundays” and support the Circle V Ranch Camp near Cachuma Lake.

“It was incredibly rewarding to go to Skid Row in Los Angeles and bring lunch to the needy at the Cardinal Manning Center,” said the society’s president, Mary French. “Our primary objective is to become closer to God by serving as volunteers to help those in need.”

In 2015, Old Mission Santa Inés Conference celebrated 15 years of Service to the parish and the community.
