John J. Lauro Jr., a baseball coach at Marymount California University in Rancho Palos Verdes, is a proud producer of a film depicting the life of Blessed Mother Teresa of Calcutta.

“The Letters,” which opened in theaters on Dec. 4., is an important film, Lauro Jr. says.

The film focuses on personal letters that she wrote to her spiritual advisors telling of the loneliness and doubt she felt while working in the slums of Calcutta, India.

“Mother Teresa had doubts. She believed that God had abandoned her. I think it’s important that people know about her uncertainty because so many of us feel that way at times,” Lauro Jr. says.

“She struggled with this ‘darkness’ for decades,” he continues. “It’s an amazing story that needed to be told. I was blessed to be a part of it.”
