Don Bosco Technical Institute (Bosco Tech), 1151 San Gabriel Boulevard, Rosemead, will host a mathematics competition for fifth through eighth grade students Feb. 7. The 43nd annual event will offer awards for the highest scoring individual and teams. Students from all San Gabriel Valley public and private schools are invited to participate.

“The math competition is an opportunity for middle school students to test their critical thinking and computational skills,” said Bosco Tech Principal Xavier Jimenez. “We believe it encourages the development of complex math skills among younger students, something that’s very important for students interested in engineering, math, science or medicine.”

Competition check-in begins at 7:45 a.m. and the one-hour test starts at 9 a.m. An award ceremony will begin at approximately 11 a.m., following the competition. The cost is $8 per individual and $5 per person for teams of four or more. Participants can register for the competition by Feb. 3 by visiting www.boscotech.edu/events.

This year, for the first time, the $1,000 Michael M. Hattar Excellence in Math Scholarship will be offered to the top scoring participant who attends Bosco Tech in the fall of 2015.
