The 8th grade team of Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic School in Pasadena placed first in the Odyssey of the Mind competition. This victory is leading the team to the World Championship which will take place in May at Michigan State University.

The 8th grade team competed in a problem where they had to construct a vehicle that could be taken apart, stored in a container, then reassembled. Their score was high enough in the Los Angeles regional competition to send the team to State Finals. They also placed first place for their division and problem in the state finals.

“We are all excited about our Assumption of the BVM 8th grade Odyssey team,” said Patty Hager, Principal of the Assumption of the BVM.

Odyssey of the Mind is an international educational program that provides creative problem-solving opportunities for students. Students are given a tough problem to solve and they have 3 months to solve it. Team members apply their creativity to solve problems that range from building mechanical devices to presenting their own interpretation of literary classics.
