The pilgrim images of Our Lady of Guadalupe and St. Juan Diego have begun their annual tour through the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, with a kick-off celebration at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels Oct. 22. The images’ first stop is at St. Catherine of Alexandria Church, where they were welcomed with a parish procession and Mass celebrated by Bishop Marc Trudeau.

Each year, the images travel to different parishes around the archdiocese, where they are venerated at special Masses and celebrations.

The Guadalupe image is an exact digital reproduction of the original image in Mexico City’s Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe and has been blessed and touched to the original image.

The Archdiocese of Los Angeles will host the 90th annual procession and Mass in honor of Our Lady of Guadalupe on Sunday, Dec. 5. This year’s theme, “Always Forward in Mission and Hope,” unites this celebration with the Jubilee Year “Forward in Mission” for the 250th anniversary of Mission San Gabriel, as St. Junipero Serra entrusted his ministry to establish the missions in California to Our Lady of Guadalupe.

The annual event is free to the public, through the financial support of parish Guadalupano groups, donors, and generous LA Catholics. All funds raised by the Give Central Donation page will be used to cover the costs of the event. For more information, and to donate, visit lacatholics.org/guadalupe.
