Jesuit Father Greg Boyle, founder & executive director of Homeboy Industries, will be the featured speaker at the 18th annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Breakfast, scheduled Jan. 16, 8 a.m. at St. Mary's Academy in Inglewood.

The event, coordinated by the African American Catholic Center for Evangelization, is one of several scheduled during the weekend that coincides with the Jan. 15 birthday of Dr. King. 

On Jan. 13, a three-day Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Revival will be led by Josephite Father Charles Andrus at Transfiguration Church, 7 p.m. nightly and at 10 a.m. on Jan. 15. Transfiguration is located at 2515 W. Martin Luther King Blvd., Los Angeles; (323) 291-1136. 

Following the Breakfast at St. Mary’s Academy (701 Grace Ave., Inglewood) is the annual MLK Liturgy, 5 p.m. at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels, 555 W. Temple St., Los Angeles; (213) 680-5200.

The African American Catholic Center for Evangelization serves the African American Catholic community within the Archdiocese of Los Angeles  to support and collaborate  with local parishes and organizations and the African Diaspora to develop and promote programs of evangelization and education; to provide opportunities to gather and share resources, talents and gifts; to raise the level of consciousness of all to the richness of the contributions of African Americans to the Catholic Church and to identify and address issues and concerns of the African American Catholic community.
