Reservations have opened for the tenth annual Los Angeles Catholic Prayer Breakfast, scheduled Sept. 16 at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels.
This year’s featured speaker is Carmelite Sister Regina Marie Gorman, who has served as Vicar General of her religious order, chair of the National Conference of Major Superiors of Women Religious, and is a nationally-known and much-sought-after spiritual speaker and retreat leader.
A Detroit native who grew up in Southern California, Sister Gorman graduated from Bishop Amat High School, La Puente, and entered the Carmelite Sisters of the Most Sacred Heart of Los Angeles in 1972. She professed first vows in 1975, taught junior high at local Catholic schools, and served nine years as directress of novices and 12 years as Superior General. She holds a Master’s in Christian Theology and Ministry from Franciscan University.
The Los Angeles Catholic Prayer Breakfast begins at 6:30 a.m. with Rosary, followed by Mass at 7 a.m. and the breakfast and presentation at 8, concluding by 9 a.m. The Mass will feature the LACPB 10th Anniversary Choir, under the direction of Paul Puccinelli with the voices of the Carmelite Sisters of the Most Sacred Heart of Los Angeles. Tickets are $35 in advance or $45 at the door, with tables of 10 available at $300.
On Sept. 15, a Youth Rally with Sister Regina Marie and also featuring The Jacob and Matthew Band will take place on the Cathedral Plaza, 4-6 p.m. (gates open at 3:30). Tickets (at $5 per ticket, which includes a snack) are required.
Attendance at last year’s Prayer Breakfast set a record of nearly 1,800. The event has grown since its inception to become a leading archdiocesan late summer-early fall gathering. Previous Prayer Breakfast presenters have included Cardinals William Levada, Timothy Dolan and Donald Wuerl, Archbishop Charles Chaput, Supreme Knight of Columbus Carl Anderson, Catholic Relief Services president Carolyn Woo and author-motivational speaker Matthew Kelly.
