Archbishop José Gomez will ordain 15 men to the Sacred Order of Deacon on June 7 at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels.

Those to be ordained and their wives have undergone a five-year period of formation in preparation for ministry in their parishes. The formation process integrates academic, pastoral and spiritual dimensions towards forming deacons and their wives in ministries of word, liturgy and charity.

The following are brief profiles, including some of their present ministries of charity and justice.

Ryan and Wynsdey Adams, from St. Charles Borromeo in North Hollywood. Ryan is director of multimedia and HD re-mastering at CBS Studios, and Wynsdey is a crisis intervention counsellor. Both Ryan and Wynsdey are involved in detention ministry.

Salvador and Maria Aviles, from St. Hilary in Pico Rivera. Salvador works in a warehouse receiving department while Maria works in book restoration. He works with youth and ministers in a convalescent home while she is a Eucharistic minister and lector.

Faustino and Victoria Ciau, from St. Athanasius in Long Beach. Faustino is a transportation compliance coordinator and Victoria is the parish business manager. Both minister in providing food and goods for the needy in their community.

Douglas and Phyllis Cremer, from St. Elizabeth of Hungary in Altadena. Doug is dean of transdisciplinary studies at Woodbury University and Phyllis is vice president of student development also at Woodbury University. At their parish, Doug is involved in the social justice committee and he and Phyllis serve on the health and wellness committee.

John and Leslie Dierking, from St. Frances of Rome in Azusa. John is an attorney/tax compliance officer and Leslie is an accountant. John works in detention ministry and with Leslie serves in the parish bereavement ministry.

Ron and Leslie Elchert, from St. Pius X in Santa Fe Springs. Ron is an accountant and Leslie is a homemaker. Together they are involved in bereavement and prison ministry. Ron also visits the sick and ministers to the homeless.

Francisco and Herminia Gonzalez, from St. Lucy in Long Beach. Francisco is a golf course superintendent and Herminia is a housewife. They are both involved in outreach to the poor.

Osman Gonzalez, from Holy Family in Glendale. Osman works in construction as a tile installer. As a parish minister he visits the sick.

Jose and Gloria Hinojos, from Nativity in El Monte. Jose is a real estate agent and Gloria works in customer service. As parish ministers, both visit the sick.

Omar and Mabel Ramos, from St. Finbar in Burbank. Jose is a foreman and operator while Mabel is a teacher aide. Omar ministers in the area of restorative justice and Mabel works in the parish St. Vincent de Paul ministry.

Neon and Fe Recuenco, from Holy Family in Glendale. Neon is retired and Fe works as a claims adjuster in the health industry. He is involved in justice and peace ministry, and both are extraordinary ministers of the Eucharist.

Miguel and Ana Maria Romero, from St. Alphonsus in Los Angeles. Miguel is a machinist and Ana Maria is a housewife. Together they minister in an orphanage and Miguel visits the sick.

Celso and Agnes Roxas, from Our Lady of Peace in North Hills. They are both retired. In the parish they are Eucharistic ministers and participate in justice and peace ministry.

Sonal and Menik Seneviratne, from St. Augustine in Culver City. Sonal is a manager of global information technology at Mattel and Menik is a project manager at J2 Global. Sonal ministers to the sick in hospitals and visits the homebound. He also works with the parish food bank. Menik is a facilitator for prayer and life workshops.

Miguel and Imelda Vargas, from Our Lady of Guadalupe in El Monte. Miguel is a safety engineer and Imelda is a housewife. He is involved in several charity ministries including home construction for the poor. Imelda is a lector.
