No opportunity wasted: Meet LA's most unlikely valedictorian

Vol. 8, No. 12

June 16, 2023

On the cover: Mary Suarez arrived at Bishop Conaty-Our Lady of Loretto High School four years ago as a refugee from Venezuela with no English and few advantages. This month, she graduated at the top of her class. Starting on Page 10, Angelus tells the stories of Suarez and other young men and women from the Class of 2023 — the youngest class to experience the disruption of the COVID-19 pandemic in high school — whose Catholic education has made the ultimate difference.
