A New York Times analysis Jan. 10 finds that the typical “Dreamer” lives in Los Angeles, was brought from Mexico and entered the U.S. at 6 years old. Other factoids about the “Dreamers”:

> More than a quarter — 28 percent — of the 800,000 beneficiaries of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program are living in California, and 14 percent live in the Los Angeles metro area.

> California has the most DACA youths, with 222,795, followed by Texas with124,300 and Illinois with 42,376.

> The large majority of DACA recipients are Latino, with 79 percent coming from Mexico. Only 30 percent of eligible immigrants applied for DACA protections from Asian countries like Philippines, India and South Korea.

> Immigrant workers who are eligible for DACA hold higher-skilled and higher-paying jobs than undocumented immigrants who are not eligible for DACA.

“DACA-eligible workers are more likely to work in sales and office jobs and less likely to work in construction, cleaning and maintenance jobs,” the Times said.
