In honor of National CPR Week, St. Francis Medical Center in Lynwood is offering free “Hands-Only CPR” classes to the community on June 2, offering multiple sessions in both English and Spanish. The Los Angeles County Emergency Medical Services Agency is also a collaborator of this event.
Administering CPR could save the life of a family member or a loved one. Seventy percent of cardiac arrests occur at home, according to the American Heart Association. While only approximately 10 percent of cardiac arrest victims survive outside the hospital setting, immediate and effective CPR can more than double a victim’s chance of survival.
The sessions in English will take place from 10:30 a.m. to 11 a.m., and from noon to 12:30 p.m. The Spanish sessions will be held 11 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., and 11:30 a.m. to noon.
CPR instructors will demonstrate the proper techniques of Hands-Only CPR and give participants the opportunity to practice on mannequins. The training will not result in CPR certification, but information on how to get certified will be available.
The training will be provided at St. Francis Medical Center, 3630 E. Imperial Highway in the Health Services Pavilion (Terrace Level classroom), in Lynwood.
