Archbishop José H. Gomez is leading 102 pilgrims from the Archdiocese of Los Angles on a pilgrimage to Mexico City. The pilgrims are making the journey to visit the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe which houses the original tilma (or cloak) of St. Juan Diego, which holds the miraculous image of Our Lady of Guadalupe that appeared in 1531. It is the first Archdiocesan pilgrimage to the shrine.

Archbishop José H. Gomez presided at Mass at the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Mexico City on Saturday, July 8 at 8 a.m. PST (10 a.m. CST). The Mass was live streamed at archla.org/guadalupemass.

During the Mass, the Archbishop presented hundreds of prayer requests for the intercession of Our Lady Guadalupe collected at a Mass recognizing the contributions of all immigrants in the U.S., which was celebrated at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels on June 18, and on TheNextAmerica.org.

The Basilica at Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe is the most visited Catholic pilgrimage site in the world. For nearly 500 years, the image of Our Lady of Guadalupe has been the symbol of hope, peace and love, uniting peoples around the world as one family of God.

The pilgrimage, which ends on July 11, includes visits to Santiago de Tlatelolco Church, home of the baptismal font of St. Juan Diego, and Santa Maria Tulpetlac Parish, the church of the fifth apparition of the Virgin to St. Juan Diego.
