Holy Innocents celebrates 90th anniversary Dec. 27-28
Cardinal William Levada, Prefect Emeritus of the Sacred Congregation of the Faith and a former parishioner of Holy Innocents Church in Long Beach, will be among the honored guests at the parish’s 90th anniversary gala celebration on Dec. 27.
Also to be honored is Rev. Mother Judith Zuniga, the Superior General of the Carmelite Sisters of the Most Sacred Heart of Los Angeles, who have staffed and administered the school throughout its 55 years. The event begins at 6 p.m. at the Grand Event Center in Long Beach.
On Dec. 28 --- the Feast of the Holy Innocents --- Cardinal Levada (ordained in 1961 from St. John’s Seminary for the Archdiocese of Los Angeles) will offer a special liturgy celebrating the 90th anniversary milestone of the church’s founding.
Holy Innocents was founded in 1923, celebrating Mass at the McFayden Funeral Parlor with Father Thomas Dowling presiding. The church on 20th Street was dedicated in 1926. The current pastor is Father Peter Irving III
The parish school staffed by the Carmelite Sisters was opened Sept. 15, 1958 during the 28-year pastorate of Father John J. O’Brien, whom purchased land at 25th Street and Pacific Avenue to accommodate the school. Its first graduation was held in 1963; today it includes grades K-8.
Tickets for the gala are $50 per person. All proceeds from the event will benefit Holy Innocents School and the Holy Innocents Expectant Mother’s Outreach program.

Marymount receives accreditation for fall 2014 MBA program
Marymount California University recently announced the upcoming launch of its new Master of Business Administration (MBA) program for the fall of 2014.
The MBA program is designed to prepare students for successful entrepreneurial leadership in a global economy by helping them develop analytical, applied, and interpersonal skills. The program combines management, leadership, and fieldwork to prepare for effective roles in for-profit or non-profit organizations, as well as start-ups.
Marymount received accreditation for the new MBA program --- which publicly validates the integrity of the program --- from the WASC Senior College and University Commission.
