On Oct. 22, Archbishop José H. Gomez celebrated the inaugural Mass for the seventh president of Marymount California University in Rancho Palos Verdes with more than 200 students, faculty, trustees and community members.

Lucas Lamadrid, Ph.D., became president in April after serving as a senior executive and managing the education division of an international student recruiting firm.

He has also held senior positions with Belmont Abbey College in North Carolina and with St. Vincent College in Pennsylvania. He received his doctorate from the graduate program in religion at Duke University.

Lamadrid is married to Beth Kreitzer, Ph.D., an expert in 16th century history and a native of California. They have three children and are active parishioners at St. John Fisher Church in Rancho Palos Verdes.
